Sports Awards: North Adams-Jerome athletes sweep week eight awards
Week eight voting ballots for the athlete and football player of the week have ended. It is time to announce the winners. North Adams-Jerome swept both awards, becoming the second school (Camden-Frontier) to win both awards in the same week. Miranda Daniels won the weight eight athlete of the week award. Daniels was nominated for the award after her efforts helping the Rams defeat Jackson Christian and then compete in the Jonesville 'Think Pink' tournament. Daniels had eight aces and six kills against Jackson Christian. Daniels also had 20 kills and 19 digs at the Jonesville tournament. Honorable Mentions Jay Jenkins - Hillsdale Academy - Boys Soccer: Had 3 goals against the Hornets in the cross-town match Shelby Bryner - Pittsford - Volleyball: Helped defeat Terriers with nine kills, 20 assists, 15 digs and three aces; had 18 kills, 47 assists, 32 digs and nine aces at Jonesville tournament Jenna Miller - Litchfield - Volleyball: Broke the school record for individual blocks with 14 Tyler Bays - Reading - Boys Cross Country: Won the boys Big 8 individual title with a PR of 16:12 and a jamboree win Chloe Stalhood - Hillsdale - Girls Cross Country: New PR of 19:45.48 and fourth place finish at Gabriel Richard Invite Mackenzie Plum - Jonesville - Volleyball: 14 digs against Concord; 36 digs at the 'Think Pink' tournament Senior running back Casey Loper won his second football player of the week award. The senior last won in week five. Three weeks later, Loper broke the school rushing record with a 135-yard rushing performance against the Pittsford Wildcats. He also has 20 touchdowns on the season and a total of 1,158 yards. Honorable Mentions Brady Wright - Jonesville: Helped the Comets defeat Hanover-Horton with 11 receptions for 228 yards and five touchdowns Jacobi Gonzalez - Waldron: Led team in rushing and receiving to help Spartans defeat Burr Oak; had 137 rushing yards, 51 receiving yards, two touchdowns and 10 tackles Anthony Governo - Pittsford: helped the Wildcats defeat North Adams-Jerome while leading the team in rushing with 118 yards, two touchdowns and 10 tackles Trevor Wagler - Hillsdale: Led the Hornets with nine total tackles against the undefeated Clinton Redwolves
